A Musical Offering

Adoremus readers who are church musicians may be interested in a work I have in progress: musical settings for the “Proper” of the Mass (Introit, Responsorial Psalm, Gospel Acclamation, Offertory and Communion with appointed Psalms) of the Missale Romanum. The purpose of this project is to make available a resource that will allow worshippers to “sing the Mass” rather than “sing at the Mass”.

Settings provided are in the style of the Latin Gregorian psalm tones (when English accent patterns permit), English modal psalm tones, full chant settings, and a selection of polyphonic settings (SATB and SSA/TTB). All settings evoke the “sounds” of classical Catholic church music.

At the Introit, a metrical Psalm is provided that can be sung by the congregation with a hymn tune. The Sequences of the Roman Rite are provided in Latin and English versions. Given also are a variety of “Alleluias” from simple to complex settings. Full organ accompaniments are provided.

As this is a work in progress, interested parties may receive one copy by email each week for a Sunday coming. Permission to use copyrighted musical settings and texts are granted on a “for educational purposes only, not for profit or resale” basis, and those participating in this educational project may use them as they see fit. Permission to use copyrighted texts of the current Sacramentary and Lectionary must be obtained by individuals from the copyright holders.

In return, such persons agree to provide feedback to me about the suitability of these materials. This process will aid in a final, printed edition of this work when the new translation of the Missale Romanum is available. (Those who are able make “love offerings” to support this work. Otherwise, there is no charge.)

If you are interested, please contact me (by email, if possible).
